You will be joining a service based in a town of 60,000 providing a comprehensive medical service to a regional population of around 100,000. The predominant industries in this region are beef cattle, mining and tourism. Located just 30 mins from the coast and the gorgeous Great Barrier Reef, you could easily leave beachside and truly enjoy the delights of this location.
In this role your responsibilities will include: Provide clinical care for inpatients and outpatients plus neonates in a level 2 Special Care Nursery. Duties will include after hours care and on call. Clinical supervision for Registrars/Principal House Officers, and interns and junior and senior house officers. Participation in the formal program of clinical education, and clinical teaching for medical, nursing and allied health staff. Lead and participate in quality improvement activities within this interdisciplinary service.
This service has enjoyed redevelopment over the last few years, some are completed and some are due for completion soon including a new Emergency Department (more than 35,000 presentations annually), Rehabilitation Unit, Maternity and Paediatrics Units, Dialysis Unit, and Learning and Development Centre, together with the consolidation of a number of outlying services into the main hospital complex.
To be eligible for consideration for this role you will require post-graduate qualifications such as Fellowship of the Royal Australasian College of Physicians (FRACP) or equivalent, and eligible for specialist registration with the Medical Board of Australia as a Physician in Paediatric Medicine.
